Multi-award winning Christie MicroTiles have been recognised as innovative in the field of digital display solutions.

MicroTiles are well known for their brilliant image quality, long lifespan, reliability and an MTBF of over seven years.  Find out more about the two tried and tested technologies that Christie has used to achieve this.

Adaptability, Flexibility, Ease of Use
MicroTiles easily build up into smart displays of any shape or size, automatically calibrating as each tile joins the array.  Reconfiguration and redeployment is equally quick. Compact size means they can fit in with your design.

Ease of use

Environmentally Friendly
Christie is committed to green and sustainable design. MicroTiles, made from highly recyclable, RoHS compliant materials, follow this ethos. They’re virtually maintenance free, use no consumables, and have been officially recognised for their eco-design.

Image Quality
LED illumination combined with DLP projection gives vibrant images with a rich colour gamut that exceeds the norm. Brightness several times that of other tiled displays, and superior resolution on a MicroTiles display, gets and retains your audience’s attention.

Image Quality

MicroTiles combine long life LED illumination that can run for over seven years before reaching half brightness, and dependable DLP projection, with a MTBF of 65,000 hours, to give you one of the most reliable digital display solutions available.

LEDs – Light Emitting Diodes – are the key component that gives Christie MicroTiles their bright, rich, vibrant and reliable imagery.

LED illumination is a well established, durable technology. It’s already out there, in the real world, in use, every day.  Can you say the same about laser illumination systems?

LED illumination has many benefits:

  1. Instant OnInstant On – LED light sources achieve full brightness the moment they’re switched on, unlike other low energy illumination technology
  2. Colour GamutRich colour gamut – LED has 50% greater colour gamut than LCD, and offers 115% of the colour gamut of the broadcast standard for NTSC. Christie MicroTiles allows colour temperature to be fine-tuned to match the ambient conditions around an installation.
  3. Brighter ImageHigh Brightness – LED light sources can produce 800 nits (candelas per square metre). This is three times the brightness of LCD displays, and eight times that of Plasma
  4. ReliabilityReliability – with no moving parts such as colour wheels, and no consumables such as lamps to replace, LED illuminated displays offer superb reliability. They are able to run 24/7 for over seven years without failure.
  5. Energy EfficiencyEnergy Efficiency – LED illumination requires a tiny fraction of the power needed to run conventional projection illumination systems, saving you money. The low power consumption also means that amount of heat generated by LED illumination is kept to a minimum, so little or no additional cooling systems are required.
  6. Environmentally FriendlyEnvironmentally Friendly – In addition to the dramatically lowered energy requirements, LED light sources contain no hazardous substances or consumable parts.

Christie has a long history of using DLP projection technology to create some of the brightest, most reliable digital display solutions available.

DLP offers superb control and uniformity of colour, and is well suited to 24/7 operations in the most demanding of environments.

DLP Projection

Inside each DMD chip are many tiny mirrors, which correspond to 1 pixel of light in the projected image.  The tiny mirrors tilt towards or away from the light source thousands of times a second to produce up tp 1024 shades of grey.

Benefits of DLP

  1. DLP LogoTried & tested technology – Christie uses DLP projection in MicroTiles, and many of its other products, because it’s proven, reliable technology. MicroTiles has built on this dependable platform, as part of our continual innovation in DLP.
  2. High ResolutionHigh resolution - In DLP projection, light is reflected off tiny, hinged mirrors called Digital Micro-Mirror Devices. Each DMD delivers a single pixel of the projected image. The space between each pixel is much smaller than with other technologies, enabling DLP to deliver crisp, high resolution imagery.
  3. Colour FidelityColour fidelity - Each DMD, and therefore each pixel, of a DLP image can be individually controlled. This means that DLP can deliver superior colour fidelity that accurately and consistently represents your brand.
  4. Brighter ImageBrighter image - DLP projection is brighter than other technologies. Almost all of the light is reflected out of the projector, making DLP brighter than other display technologies, which tend to absorb light.
  5. 247No risk of burn-in - Unlike other technologies, such as those relying on phosphor to create an on-screen image, DLP-based displays will never suffer from burn-in or any form of image retention. This means displays are capable of running 24/7.
